Dear Racist,

Lots to unpack here:

“but many Democrats have blamed Bush 43 personally for “allowing” 9/11 to happen by not adequately monitoring the population. Different standards, Owens?”

There may have been pockets of liberals over time who blamed Bush for 9/11, but Bush’s approval rating spiked above 90% after 9/11 and most Americans, on the whole, don’t blame him for 9/11. A lot of times when they do point out that 9/11 happened on his watch, it’s to highlight the hypocrisy of Republicans blaming Obama for every terrorist attack. Hillary Clinton, the opponent of the candidate you’re defending, certainly didn’t blame Bush for 9/11, and I never blamed him for 9/11, so don’t throw your strawman arguments at me.

“ Owens praises immigrants for “show[ing] an extremely low propensity for crime”, hoping to distract the reader from the fact that the issue is illegal immigrants and unvetted refugees, not legal immigrants”

Those studies hold true for undocumented immigrants, and we have one of the strictest vetting processes for refugees in the world.

“ The important statistic is how many American are victimized by the unvetted refugees that have been let in.”

Tell me this, how many Americans have been victimized by unvetted refugees? And how many Americans have been victimized by gun deaths? It’s amazing that you’re willing to change our entire policy toward refugee victims over a non-existent problem yet you defend a candidate who proposes we do nothing about a problem that kills thousands of Americans every year.

“ Lightning kills on average 44 people a year. The Orlando attack alone killed 49.”

Now you’re showing you don’t even have a basic understanding of statistics.

“ But if Owens says that’s how we should think about it, then statistically, about 150 blacks die each year falling on stairs and steps, while less than 30 unarmed blacks are shot by police each year while not resisting. Therefore, blacks should just ignore all those police shootings.”

Black Lives Matter is about a lot more than police shootings; it’s about systemic racism that’s firmly entrenched within the justice system. The police shootings are the most dramatic consequences of that systemic racism and therefore have outsized influence in the conversation.

Until next time, Racist.
