Not sure I really agree, Alan. I think something going “viral” is when it eventually leads to people organically sharing it (kind of like a real virus) even if the initial spark was a paid marketing campaign. If I create a piece of content, then spend $100 to target it on Facebook, and then it takes off with the right people and gets thousands of shares and millions of views, I’d still consider it having gone viral even if it originated with a paid campaign.
